August Fryderyk Duranowski
RENOWNED VIOLINIST AND COMPOSER
The son of a Polish mother and a French émigré, who served as the concertmaster of Prince Michał Kazimierz Ogiński’s court orchestra in Słonim. He learned violin from his father and later studied in Paris under G.B. Viotti. Duranowski performed across Europe, including in Brussels, Italy, Germany, and Warsaw. He also served as the conductor of court orchestras in Kassel and Aschaffenburg before settling in Strasbourg as the leader of the theater orchestra.
Legend has it that his remarkable Duranowski’s pizzicato technique using the left hand captivated the young Paganini and inspired him to explore new possibilities in violin performance.
